The Peoria Area World Affairs Council presents Afghanistan: Today and Tomorrow
with Ambassador Ronald Neumann. Ambassador Neumann served as the United States Ambassador to Afghanistan (2005-2007) and as the Ambassador to Bahrain (2001-2004) and Algeria (1994-1997). He is author of The Other War: Winning and Losing in Afghanistan. Ambassador Neumann currently serves as the president of the American Academy of Diplomacy, a Washington, DC-based think tank, and as a professor at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.

A $5.00 late fee will be applied to all reservations made after September 13. No dinner reservations will be accepted after Tuesday, September 14.

Students through grade 12 may attend the program only for free.

Central Illinois Youth Symphony Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction
Join CIYS in a celebration of 45 years of growing the music with the young people of Central Illinois! CIYS kicks off their Sapphire Season with the 5th Annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction, a delightful evening of wine tasting, delicious hors d'oeuvres and beautiful music.

This year CIYS is honored to welcome Maestro George Stelluto, the new Music Director for the Peoria Symphony Orchestra as their special guest. George will speak about his vision for continued growth of music in the Peoria-area and the value of supporting music education for the youth in our community.

Peoria Area World Affairs Council presents Celebrate Lebanon!
Celebrate Lebanon! is a cultural and educational gathering on November 12-14, 2010 in Peoria, IL. Through presentations by prominent speakers, engaging displays, and a wide variety of cultural experiences, participants will experience the rich heritage of Lebanese Americans and explore the important relations between the United States and Lebanon.

Celebrate Lebanon! is sponsored by the Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC), a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are tax deductible and will be acknowledged by letter. Co-sponsors include the Itoo Society and the community of St. Sharbel. Proceeds from this event will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Friday, November 12: 4:30 to 11 pm: Opening celebration at Itoo Hall. Events include an 8 pm keynote address by Dr. James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute in Washington, D.C.

Saturday, November 13: 7:30 am to 11 pm: Lebanon Day at the Hotel Pere Marquette.
Events include a daylong symposium with a 9 am presentation by Ziad Baroud, interior minister of Lebanon; 10:45 am breakout sessions; a noon luncheon; a 1 pm discussion called "Allies and Adversaries: The Importance of U.S.-Lebanese Relations" by Antoine Chedid, ambassador of Lebanon, and Jeffrey Feltman, former U.S. ambassador to Lebanon; 2:30 pm breakout sessions; a 5:30 pm VIP reception; a 6:30 pm banquet and presentation by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood of Peoria; a 7:30 pm introduction of special guests; and an 8 pm cultural parade.

Sunday, November 14: 11 am Mass at St. Sharbel's Church in Peoria, a 12:15 procession to the Shrine of St. Sharbel and a 1 pm luncheon.
